Descriptions of Approved Courses:

Behavior Issues for Elders 3 CEUs

This course discusses behavior issues found in the RCFE. Administrators will learn how to understand challenging behaviors and ways to work with residents who are communicating through their behaviors.

 

Communication in Residential Settings 1 CEU

This is an online course that reviews the skills required to communicate effectively with residents with disabilities involving hearing, vision or neurological impairments. The course also covers methods to communicate effectively with the general population in an assertive and concise manner.

 

Conflict Resolution in Residential Care 3 CEUs

This course will familiarize administrators with conflicts within a residential setting. It will provide tools for deescalating conflicts in a productive manner.

 

Dementia: Behavior? Communication? 3 CEUs

This course explores behavior in residents with dementia. The communication that is possible through behaviors is discussed. Techniques and tips for handling difficult behaviors shown by the elderly resident with dementia are presented.

 

Dementia: Getting Through the Day (ADLs) 3 CEUs

This course helps the administrator in understanding how dementia affects the daily activities of a resident. It provides tips and techniques to assist residents with dementia while allowing them to maintain their dignity.

 

Dementia: Laying the Foundation 3 CEUs

This course presents basic information on dementia for the administrator and care staff. It reviews different dementias, techniques for resident care. Resident's rights, current research and regulations are also reviewed.

 

Dementia Speaks: Communication Issues 3 CEUs

This course assists the administrator and facility staff to understand what residents are trying to communicate when dementia robs the residents of language skills.

 

Developmental Disabilities and Aging 2 CEUs

This is an online class that reviews the types of issues specific to people with developmental disabilities (mental retardation or intellectual disabilities, epilepsy, autism, or cerebral palsy) as they age. There are some specifics relative to early onset Alzheimer’s Disease and issues of physical as well as cognitive disabilities with tips for the residential administrator.

 

Discussing Thyroid Disorders for Administrators CEUs

This course helps the administrator understand the common disorders of the thyroid gland, and how it impacts a resident's life. The management and treatment of the various disorders is reviewed. To help the adminstrator recognize problems, complications of thyroid disorders is also discussed.

 

Diversity Issues in Residential Care 3 CEUs

This course addresses the cultural competence in residential care. The course will cover basics about how various cultures differ in the way each communicates, and offers tools for improving communication. It will explore what values may be held be residents of differing cultures.

 

Family Dynamics 3 CEUs

This online course will help the administer understand how important family relationships are for the resident. It also will provide suggestions for forging a strong relationship between family members and the facility.

 

HIV, AIDS, & Tuburculosis, with a Side of Hepatitis 4 CEUs

This is a four-hour course that meets the CCL requirement for HIV-TB-AIDS education. We have also included a coponent on Hepatitis.

 

Osteoporosis: Issues for Residential Administrators CEUs

This course looks at what osteoporosis is and examines how it affects residents. Suggestions are provided to assist administrators with the management, treatment and prevention of osteoprorsis in their residents.

 

Spirituality in Residential Care 1 CEU

Through its review of current literature on the importance of spirituality to the well-being of residents in facilities, this course offers an opportunity to learn how to assist your resident through their own sense of spirituality to find the comfort in his/her life and in the journey to death. This course will clarify ways to avoid the pitfalls of pushing religion or the caregivers' own sense of spirituality, rather than enabling the resident to enhance the experience with a personal sense of spirituality.

 

Understanding Asperger's Syndrome 2 CEUs

This course will provide the administrator with information about Asperger's Syndrome and how best to work with their residents who have been diagnosed with Asperger's.

 

Understanding Parkinson’s Disease
2 CEUs

This course will provide the administrator with information about Parkinson’s Disease and how best to work with their residents who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
