Opinions R Us
Our trainers report on what they hear from students who face issues with funding, marketing, and compliance. They are never at a loss for words. Let us know what you think. If you post a question, we'll get an answer for you or link you with someone with the answer. What's on your mind?

Experienced Consultants are available to assist in developing your program, preparing a licensing application, developing customized staff training programs, and working with you on corrective action plans.

Third Thursday Classes:  These three hour classes are offered to meet the requirements for Title 17, for those administrators and staff of regional centered funded programs, as well as to meet the Title 22 requirements for training.  Each month, on the Third Thursday, we'll be at Sam's Cafe with a variety of programs.  Many of the people attending the program have been affected by budget cuts, so we have priced these classes with that in mind.  The fee per person is $20 for 3 CEUs.  However, the 4th staff person from any program may attend at no charge.  This is the deal of the year.  And easy to remember, Third Thursday.

Medication Training for RCFE – AB 2609
Effective January 2008, requires specific training for any staff who assist with medication in RCFEs in California. Medication is a serious responsibility. Our training, a SMART ™ (Safe Medication Assistance with the Right Training) Approach in classroom, manual or CD format was developed with a pharmacist and a registered nurse, so it exceeds the requirements in AB 2609. SMART™ Approach assures that your staff members are appropriately trained, as well as providing additional information to monitor and document compliance. We offer a classroom program on the last Thursday of each month in the San Fernando Valley as well as a training manual with reusable materials. Click Here

AB 749 - Disaster Planning
Effective March 1, 2009 requires that all RCFEs have a disaster plan in place that assures that the facility can be self reliant for up to 72 hours.  LPAs will be checking to see that the plan is on file.

It is important to practice and update your disaster plan on a regular basis.  We have developed a disaster plan that covers the areas that AB 749 addresses and more. The key to disaster planning is practice. We must vigilantly train staff to respond in an emergency. This is an area in which it always makes sense to exceed the minimum compliance requirements.

Both online and classroom programs are available. Continuous, thorough and thoughtful disaster drills and planning are critical in our work. Most of our students tell us that their facilities have drills, while they do not practice the same safety in their personal homes. That could mean that elders are safer in facilities than they would be at home. It will take continued vigilance and extraordinary compliance on the part of small capacity facilities to assure that we can show that residents are safe without the added expense of required sprinkler systems.

Pre-Paid Legal Services
We have heard from many residential providers who have lost thousands of dollars as a result of becoming involved in a lawsuit, often through no fault of their own. In our business, it's not a question of IF you'll need an attorney, it's WHEN. With legal fees averaging around $300 per hour, it makes sense to have the security and peace of mind of knowing you have access to one of the top law firms in California.

Pre-Paid Legal Service can give you peace of mind for less than $2.50 per day or less! For information on how to protect yourself, your family and your business, please call our office.
